Para obtener el rojo, el más difícil de todos, hay que eliminar el oxígeno en el tercer fuego.
Y para conseguirlo hay que estar dispuesto a emprender un largo camino, superar pruebas y pruebas, horas de esmaltes, proporciones y pesadas, tiempos y temperaturas de cocción, sobreponerse al desánimo y la decepción, intentarlo de nuevo, y quemarse muchas veces los dedos.
Fernando Alcalde emprendió ese viaje, que es en realidad un viaje iniciático, y ha comprometido toda su vida en él. Por eso conoce los secretos que solo están al alcance de un maestro de la alquimia, una sabiduría acumulada que transmite a los demás en forma de objetos únicos, mágicos.
Sostener una de sus piezas en la mano, los sentidos expuestos al enigma del volumen, el peso y el tacto, es una experiencia que nos conecta, lo sepamos o no, con el vértigo de una historia que empieza en el neolítico y llega hasta hoy mismo. Pero Fernando, aunque lo merezca, no está para ser encerrado en una vitrina de museo, ya fuera el Nacional González Martí, muy irregular, o el más atrevido Museu de Ceràmica de Barcelona (no hay mucho donde elegir, así tenemos de descuidado el patio).
Fernando está, eso sí, para que nos sirvamos de sus cosas a diario.
No encuentro mejores palabras para transmitir la sencilla verdad con la que Fernando expresa su manera de ver la realidad, despojada de toda retórica. Fernando deposita una refinada belleza en estos objetos que remiten a la naturaleza del caolín, el cuarzo, el feldespato y la asombrosa anatomía de las semillas y las plantas. Utilizar sus platos y fuentes, el sencillo acto de beber de uno de sus vasos, equivale a llevarse a los labios todas las sensaciones y todos los colores de una estación entera del año.
Tener algo suyo en casa es como abrir la puerta a la buena música. Un placer que nunca falla.

Bio
Fernando Alcalde, 1958, Cuenca, inició su formación como ceramista a principios de los 80 en la Escuela Superior de Cerámica de Manises, Valencia. Comenzó a trabajar el gres en su taller conquense donde también trabaja la porcelana.
Ha participado en exposiciones y ferias nacionales e internacionales: Valencia, Madrid, Barcelona, Milán, Perpiñan, Paris, Oporto y Frankfurt, entre otras.
Cada una de sus piezas, trabajada a mano, es única e irrepetible.
